Six Weeks to Svelte & Sexy, with Super-Slimmer Shakes!!!

OK we’ll come clean…

The truth is, we’re not selling miraculous meal-replacement slimming-shakes (if only it were that easy) and neither is the pictured fitness-model (Jill Coleman).

That’s because Jill gets her physique the old fashioned way. Consistent hard work lifting heavy iron.

Check out her great article!

APRIL 2012: ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

May 8, 2012

Image

This month we acknowledge Mike for his dedication and commitment to training. Week in week out we see Mike bounding through the doors with his positive attitude and smiling face. When he started with us, Mike struggled to perform an air squat. Now, 12 months on, he is able to squat 110kg, is stronger, leaner, fitter and more flexible, and has even had to have his suits adjusted to fit his new physique! Congratulations Mike! Keep up the good work and we can’t wait to see what the next 12 months brings.

Mobility- Move it or Lose it

April 30, 2012

This’ll cheer up an otherwise dreary Monday Morning…Hope you Enjoy!

Introducing Dancer, Marquese Scott

If you guys could just learn the moves by Friday, as we’re planning on using this as our Mobility work next week…LOL!

*Being a cynical kind of guy i though this involved  some high-tech wizzardry, but i checked, and Marquese Scott is the real-deal.  He’s been uploading his own dance videos on YOUTUBE since leaving the US Navy in 2003.  His stuff is shot in only one take, there are no edits, no visual effects and no pre-planned choreography.  It’s a car advert but don’t let that put you off, this guy’s a movement maestro!

April 26, 2012

Many of you will have heard us mention the phrases ‘cheat meals’ or ’80/20 rule’ when discussing a nutritional plan.

This article describes some of the science behind it and why it’s important to carefully consider your cherished cheats*.

2012 Eilat ETU Triathlon European Championships

April 22, 2012

The Heat is On

Over 700 athletes from 35 nations, competed in the European Triathlon Championships this week.  The race, which consists of a 1,500 meter swim, a 40-km bike ride and 10-km run is being used by many countries as an opportunity to select their teams for the upcoming Olympics.

“It was a tough race in hot and windy conditions, the course was tough too and it was very complicated but I felt good the whole time.” Spaniard Javier Gomez; won a third European Championship triathlon title on Saturday to remain favourite for gold at this year’s London Olympics.

This race was a first for Israel and with a swim in the Red Sea and run/bike in the desert it must have been a unique and fantasatic experience for all athletes concerned.

‘So what does all this have to do with our gym?’ you may ask…

Well, our very own Natalie Batey, was competing in the ’25-29yr Female Sprint’ category.

You won’t know this of course because big lovable Chris (Natalie’s Boyfriend and everybodies 3rd Favourite Coach at the gym) is the World’s most unassuming guy and didn’t like to say.

We’re looking forward to hearing all about it when Natalie returns.  Apparently there was much drama as the airline managed to damage Natalie’s bike in transport (a bike that Chris pointed out is worth more than his car!) and drama at the finish line too where Natalie after 70minutes of effort was pipped to silver by a mere 7 seconds.

A massive well done Natalie, we’re all very proud of you!!!

See Natalie’s results here: 25-29yrs FEMALE SPRINT: Natalie Batey

I hope Natalie won’t mind us saying but like all self-funded athletes, Natalie is always on the look-out for sponsors.  So if you’re in charge of the purse-strings at your company and are looking for a successfull athlete in a very presitgious and high-profile sport to be associated with, we’d love to hear from you.

E122 & E129

April 22, 2012

Ever wonder what ingredients businesses can legally put in their products?

On a recent trip to the supermarket we picked up this curry paste.

20120422-000530.jpg

In case you missed it; it reads; ‘may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children’.

Sorry what?? We had to re-read the label to make sure we’d got that right. Did the Food Standards Agency think; ‘well it may harm children, but it gives such a delightful red colour to the curry it would be a shame not to allow it’?

A word of warning, there’s only one person looking out for your health, and it ain’t the Government.

Always read the labels before purchasing products. Chances are, if you’ve never heard of some of the ingredients, or they’re cleverly described as numbers, you shouldn’t be putting them in your mouth.

Baby Pull-ups

April 19, 2012

Below is a cool video of a 10 Month Old Baby doing (fingertip) pull-ups.

Babies actually expose the shoulder girdle to weighted movements long before the hips get to deal with their bodyweight.

When they first learn to crawl, babies simply drag their legs behind them. Sometime later they will learn to haul themselves up onto objects to get into standing positions.

It is clear to us that loading bodyweight onto the arms is fundamental to human movement and we neglect it (on reaching adulthood) at our peril.

Can you think of a recent time when you had to support yourself on your arms?

EXAMPLES

*Bear Crawls
Ring Rows
Pull-ups
*Hand-stands
*Monkey-bar Swings
*Cartwheel
Iron Cross
Rope Climb
*Crab football
*Tree Climb
Wall Climb

*Note how many of these movements are activities we naturally do as kids.

Somewhere along the line we forget how to play and how to move. Maybe this little guy will be different…
